2020 IEM Career Mixer at the Design of Medical Devices Conference
Wednesday, April 8, 5:30-7:30
University Hall & Thomas H. Swain Room, McNamara Alumni Center
The Design of Medical Devices Conference, in cooperation with the Institute for Engineering in Medicine and MinnesotaWorks.net, will be hosting a unique opportunity, for those seeking employment or internships, to network with medical device industry professionals and companies. The IEM Career Mixer at the Design of Medical Devices Conference will be held Wednesday, April 8 and is open to the public, registration is required. Onsite registration will begin at 5:30pm on April 8 in University Hall & Thomas H. Swain Room, McNamara Alumni Center.
Company Participants & Job Seekers are Required to Register

Career Seekers-
How to Prepare
BEFORE THE EVENT:
- There is NO FEE for career seekers to attend but YOU MUST REGISTER specifically for this event. Registration will close on April 3 but onsite registration will be available. (The IEM Career Mixer at the Design of Medical Devices Conference is open to the public.)
- Create or update your resume.
- Make 10-15 copies of your resume on quality paper.
- Research the organizations attending so you can talk easily to the ones that interest you.
- Prepare a few sentences to introduce yourself.
- Come up with a few questions to ask the company reps.
- Consider your clothes! Look professional.
Women: Professional-looking dress, dress suit, or pantsuit; clean and comfortable shoes.
Men: Suit or jacket; shirt and tie; clean and comfortable shoes
DURING THE EVENT:
- Arrive 5-10 minutes early.
- Look professional! Dress as if you're going on a formal interview.
- Remember to take copies of your resume.
- Start by visiting the 1 to 2 organizations that interest you the most.
- Take notes. Get business cards from the people you talk to.
EXTRA TIPS:
- Turn off your cell phone! Phone interruptions are a huge pet peeve of recruiters
- Take the time to talk and network
- Don't ask about salary or benefits
- Don't take a business card and run
- Don't walk through with friends or family
- Don't wait until the event is almost over to arrive
AFTER THE EVENT
- Follow up! Send thank you notes to the companies that interested you or that might someday.
