Tuesday, April 7, 2:00-3:30
A.I. Johnson Great Room, McNamara Alumni Center
The DMD Emerging Medical Innovation Valuation Competition is a way for researchers and inventors to get immediate feedback about their projects from leaders in medical technology research, engineering & development. This competition is for inventors (including students, faculty, staff, and corporations) with ideas for new innovations in need of investor support to reach the next stage of development.
MILI will begin accepting submissions in Oct. 1, 2020.
The deadline for submissions will be Jan. 30, 2020.
Finalists will be announced by the end of Feb. 2020.
Initial submissions should be no more than 10 slides and summarize the new medical innovation. Judges will review and choose the top six innovation summaries to give eight minute presentations on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 during the Design of Medical Devices Conference.
Final presentations should be composed of no more than four slides. DMD Conference registration required for participation in competition. After finalists complete their pitches, faculty and fellows from the Medical Industry Valuation Laboratory will provide feedback and determine the top three innovationís with the greatest return on investment and investment potential.
The Competition judges will base their decision upon four questions:
1) Can the technology be built and scaled to production?
2) Are the Intellectual Property and Regulatory approach reasonable?
3) Is a viable reimbursement strategy possible?
4) What is the potential scale of and timing for return on investment?
The top three presenters will be awarded a full valuation, including a presentation and report, of their technologies from the University of Minnesotaís Medical Industry Valuation Laboratory. Winners will be announced at the keynote luncheon on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Registration for the Design of Medical Devices Conference as a Contributed Papers Presenter is required for participation in the competition.
